Our Story

Joseph & Josephine’s is a social entrepreneurship venture inspired by our great, great grand-parents, Joseph & Josephine Marciel.

During the early 1900s, Joseph & Josephine raised 14 children on our 78-acre homestead situated in the rural community of Kaupō, Maui. As young children, we spent our best summers here - picking bucketloads of mango, avocado, papaya, banana and citrus fruits of innumerable variety. We hiked up waterfalls, rolled down mountains, and frolicked amidst the wildlife that inhabited our own private, peaceful, paradise.

We believe land is more than an asset - it is the foundation of cultural continuity, place-based ecological knowledge, and sustainable resource management.

Our vision is to cultivate a future where traditional ecosystems thrive, future generations are empowered in 'ina stewardship, and to build resilient, connected communities.

Today, we've come to understand that our homestead is a living example of a sustainable agroecosystem. We seek to protect this legacy with a diversified business model that will inspire generations to come.

While these can be big, complex goals to achieve, we hope to start with an uncomplicated approach: Each one, teach one. This means that we document our process, share what we've learned, and invite like-minded people to join our community.
